body | A snare is two sounds layered. The drum head is a short tone. The snare wires are noise.
For the tone, use the kick patch pitched up: a sine falling from about 240 Hz to 180 Hz, with a volume decay of 70 to 100 milliseconds.
For the wires, take white noise, pass it through a high-pass filter set between 1 and 2 kHz so it doesn't muddy the low end, and give it a decay of 90 to 200 milliseconds.
The balance between the two is the character of the snare. More tone sounds like a tom with a rattle; more noise sounds like a machine. A longer noise decay makes it looser. |
