body | A kick drum is a sine wave that does two things at once: its pitch drops very fast, and its volume fades more slowly.
Start with a sine oscillator. Point an envelope at its pitch so it starts around 150 Hz and falls to about 50 Hz, with the envelope's decay set near 30 milliseconds. That fast drop is the 'thump'. Now set the volume envelope: no attack, decay around 150 to 300 milliseconds, no sustain. That's the body.
Two knobs do most of the work. A shorter pitch decay makes the kick tighter and clickier; a longer one makes it boomy. A longer volume decay turns it toward an 808.
If it lacks attack, add a click: a few milliseconds of noise or a very short burst at the very start. |
